AI for finance
Spend AI on the finance work that still needs someone to read, interpret and investigate.
Finance teams already have systems for invoices, payments and accounting. The opportunity is to connect them and use a model for the work between the structured fields: reading a supplier document, interpreting a contract clause or preparing the explanation behind a reconciliation exception. Nexus combines those model steps with deterministic checks and named approvals across SAP, Coupa, Stripe, Xero and other existing systems, so the AI budget follows the work that benefits from it.

Where the model earns its place
What AI does here
Each of these is a point where the input varies enough that a rule cannot settle it, and where the output is something a person can check.
Reads documents into usable fields
A model extracts the invoice, statement or contract information the next step needs, retaining source references and marking fields that need completion. The workflow then applies the required accounting and master-data checks.
Investigates the remaining matches
Rules settle records that agree on the established identifiers, amounts and tolerances. The model reads the descriptions and surrounding context of the remaining items and proposes how to resolve them.
Explains close movements
A model reviews comparable period data, identifies unusual movements and organizes the account, entity or posting dimensions behind them. Finance receives a focused investigation brief linked to the underlying records.
Prepares the resolution
A model classifies the exception and drafts the proposed treatment with the relevant invoice, payment or contract evidence. The reviewer starts with an assembled case rather than another search through documents.
Human control
Where a person decides
The named finance owner approves actions that move money, reallocate a payment or change a posted document. Procurement and contract owners provide the decisions within their remit, and the workflow carries the reviewed values into the destination system after the required approval. Source references, the model proposal, the approved treatment and the system response remain connected in the execution record.
Cost
Deterministic or AI
Use deterministic steps for arithmetic, tax logic, established mappings, tolerance checks and routing, without adding a model-inference charge to every invoice line. Spend model capacity on document reading and the exceptions that need interpretation. Nexus makes that choice per step: clean matches stay on the rule-based path, while the model receives the work that benefits from it. That is how the same process can use AI extensively where it helps without paying to apply it everywhere.

FAQ
AI for finance: common questions
- How does this architecture control AI cost as invoice volume grows?
- Known comparisons and validations run as rules. The workflow calls a model for the document-reading or exception task that needs it, so increased transaction volume does not automatically mean a model call at every step.
- Who approves what the model proposes?
- The named owner defined by your finance policy approves the financial action. A separate workflow step applies the reviewed treatment and records the destination request and response.
- Can we choose the model and where it runs?
- Yes. Nexus can use your selected provider or a locally hosted model; an air-gapped configuration uses models and dependencies available inside the boundary.
- Do all the finance use cases below need AI?
- No. Many are deterministic accounting handoffs, reconciliations and approval flows; the model-assisted use cases add document interpretation and investigation where those capabilities change the work.
