Enterprise use case · SAP + Snowflake + OpenAI

Anomaly review at financial close

Finance searches large period comparisons for changes that deserve attention, with little context attached to each flag. Close reviewers receive a prioritized, explainable list of unusual balances and postings for investigation.

Systems involved

SAP

The model step runs against the AI provider you choose, including Anthropic, Google Gemini or a model you host yourself. Anything outside a pre-built action runs through an API, protocol or database call, or as Rules + Code in Python, Bash, Go, Java, .NET, PHP, PowerShell or JavaScript/TypeScript, with the same approvals and audit.

How it starts: A finance owner releases the period dataset for a close-review run.

Step by step

How the process runs

  1. 01

    Establish the period scope

Read the approved SAP balances and posting context alongside the corresponding historical dataset in Snowflake.

  2. 02

    Check comparability

Rules validate entities, currencies, account mappings and period completeness before comparing values.

  3. 03

    Identify unusual movement

The selected model evaluates the approved history and current-period features to flag atypical combinations and rank review candidates.

  4. 04

    Explain the dimensions

The model describes which account, entity, cost assignment or posting characteristic contributed to each flag, distinguishing observations from hypotheses.

  5. 05

    Record the disposition

The finance reviewer accepts an explanation, requests investigation or approves a separately prepared SAP correction.

Control

Human decision and exception path

Human decision

A named close owner decides how each flag is treated; any adjustment to a posted SAP document requires the authorized finance approval before a separate workflow step applies it. An anomaly flag alone never creates a journal.

Exception path

  • Incomplete periods or changed account mappings hold affected comparisons until the dataset is made comparable.
  • Unsupported causal explanations are discarded while the underlying flagged values remain available for review.
  • Previously reviewed movements stay linked to their disposition instead of appearing as unexplained new findings.

Evidence

What gets audited

  • SAP and Snowflake period scope and source references.
  • Dataset, model and comparison-rule versions.
  • Flagged movements, contributing dimensions and reviewer disposition.
  • Approval and destination response for any subsequent correction.

FAQ

Questions about this use case

Does Nexus replace any of these systems?
No. Each system keeps its own records. Nexus runs the process between them and records each decision.
How does the run start?
A finance owner releases the period dataset for a close-review run.
What if a step is not covered by a pre-built action?
The model step runs against the AI provider you choose, including Anthropic, Google Gemini or a model you host yourself. Anything outside a pre-built action runs through an API, protocol or database call, or as Rules + Code in Python, Bash, Go, Java, .NET, PHP, PowerShell or JavaScript/TypeScript, with the same approvals and audit.
Does an unusual posting mean the entry is wrong?
No; acquisitions, reclassifications and genuine business changes can be unusual, so the reviewer assesses the source evidence.
Can the model explain the cause of every movement?
No; it can identify contributing dimensions and propose hypotheses, but missing business context remains an open investigation item.
