Cloud & IT Operations integration

Bring SAP operations under ServiceNow change governance.

SAP finance, procurement and HR exceptions become ServiceNow incidents or tickets. Approved ServiceNow changes authorise governed SAP actions, and both sides keep their record.

The problem

Why SAP + ServiceNow needs a governed process

ERP exceptions are emailed to whoever might fix them, and changes to SAP data happen outside the change process. Auditors see the result but not the decision.

Responsibility

How the systems divide responsibility

ERP record

SAP

HR, invoices, sales orders, finance, products and procurement.

Change and service governance

ServiceNow

Change requests, incidents, tickets and CMDB.

Capabilities

What Nexus orchestrates

Pre-built action groups used in this pattern. Anything else runs through an API, protocol or database step, or Rules + Code, in the same workflow.

How work starts

ServiceNow, webhook or schedule

ServiceNow is a trigger source for the change leg. SAP checks run on a schedule or from a webhook, using SAP actions or SAP RFC.

Pre-built ActionAPI / Protocol / DBRules + Code

Workflow patterns

What teams run across SAP + ServiceNow

01

SAP exception to incident

A scheduled check finds a failed posting or blocked invoice and opens a ServiceNow incident with the SAP context attached.

02

Approved change to SAP action

An approved ServiceNow change runs the SAP finance or product action it authorises and records the result on the change.

03

Procurement exception resolution

Purchase-related exceptions become tickets for the procurement owner, whose decision continues the SAP step.

04

HR data correction under change

Corrections to SAP HR records run only after the change is approved.

Direction and ownership

Which way each change moves

Exceptions flow from SAP to ServiceNow. Authorised actions flow from approved ServiceNow changes to SAP. Neither system takes over the other's records.

  • SAP ServiceNow

Finance, procurement or HR exception context for resolution.

  • ServiceNow SAP

An approved change that authorises a specific SAP action.

Control

Approvals and exception handling

Human approval

SAP writes run only from an approved ServiceNow change or a named approver in the run. Read-only checks and ticket creation run by policy.

Exceptions

  • SAP rejections keep the change open and record the response.
  • Unknown company codes or document types route to the ERP owner.
  • Operations outside the pre-built actions use SAP RFC in the same workflow.

Security, audit and deployment

Every run leaves a reviewable record

  • The SAP exception or change that started the run.
  • The incident, ticket or change record.
  • Approval and approver identity.
  • The SAP request, response and document reference.

Credentials for SAP and ServiceNow are held in the vault and used only by the steps that need them. Role-based permissions decide who can edit, approve and run the workflow. Nexus runs on premises, in private cloud or air-gapped, so the execution record stays inside your deployment boundary. Governance and audit

FAQ

SAP + ServiceNow questions

Can SAP start the run?
SAP checks run from a schedule or webhook. ServiceNow is a trigger source for the change-driven leg.
What if the SAP operation is not pre-built?
Use SAP RFC, an HTTP or SOAP request, or Rules + Code in the same workflow.
Does this replace our change process?
No. It enforces it. SAP writes follow the approval your ServiceNow process already defines.
